Dallas Green’s Name

Green confirmed, during an interview at the 2008 NXNE festival with DJ Dave Bookman of Toronto’s CFNY-FM, that he was indeed named after the famous major league pitcher/manager of the same name. He stated that although he was born on Sep 29, 1980, he had gone without a name at first.. His mother was considering naming him Graham-Todd Green, but his father had bet on Philadelphia Phillies during the 1980 World Series that October and, after the team won, his parents decided on the name Dallas.

Coincidentally, at the 2008 CASBY Awards held on October 22, Bookman presented Green with the award for Favourite New Indie Release for the City and Colour album, Bring Me Your Love; this happened to be the very same night that the Phillies were taking on Tampa Bay Rays in the first game of the 2008 World Series. The Phillies would go on to win the series, making it their first World Series victory since 1980, the year of Dallas’s birth.
